"When in doubt, wear red."

If, for some inexplicable reason, I was to wake up tomorrow and be obliged to wear nothing but red for the rest of my existence, I would live a happy life. It would probably look something like this:

Artists can color the sky red because they know it's blue. Those of us who aren't artists must color things the way they really are or people might think we're stupid.
~ Jules Feiffer

Could you pick just one colour to wear every single day? There's a great New York Magazine article about five different people who do, including my favourite Mr. Morose himself, Stephin Merritt.

The Beauty Spot: Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Review

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula

I picked up a little travel-sized bottle of this stuff the last time I was going away, loved it a whole lot, and then managed to forget all about it until I was poking around Superdrug last week. And now I've re-opened a whole world of soft, smelly (in the positive sense) goodness. Mmmm.

My favourite thing about this is definitely the smell. Chocolate! And not in a fake, sickening way; I think it's just the cocoa butter that smells like that, since it claims to be fragrance free. My mother hates it because of the smell, though, so it mightn't be everyone's cup of tea.

While the lotion looks a bit odd - a weird, yellow-ish colour - the texture is luverly. It's thick and creamy without being sticky and greasy. It claims to help fade scars and stretch marks, but I don't really have any of those, so I can't really judge it in that sense. I can vouch for the fact that my skin is smooth and soft, though.

The verdict: Great stuff! Gets a big thumbs-up from me. The price tag is also right up my alley - about €4 or €5 for 250ml, yay!

Daily Outfit: Beatnik Style

Sorry for the absence, I appear to have developed some semblance of an actual social life again since the summer started! And now I'm sick, and burying myself in books for distraction. (The Virgin Suicides and Plato's Republic at the moment, if anyone's interested.)

Jeans - Dorothy Perkins
Vest - Topshop
Top - second-hand
Hat - H&M
Shoes - Penney's/Primark

I like to jump between style extremes - dressing like a four-year old girl, and dressing like a hipster boy. Lately I've been leaning towards the latter, though this is kind of hindered by the fact that these are the only pair of jeans that I own... I've been wearing this hat with just about everything, though.

I hummed and hawwed over these shoes for ages, very nearly didn't buy them, and now wear them about five days a week. Best €5 I ever spent, but it's a pity they'll fall apart in no time. If anyone knows of something that looks similar, but is better quality, let me know!

Questionable Content Style!

I did nothing yesterday but trawl the archives of Questionable Content - the awesomest webcomic the internet has to offer - and am left with the overwhelming urge to wear stupid t-shirts and talk about hipster things. And also to add Marten and Faye to my list of fictional boy- and/or girlfriends ;)
If you need a way to waste your summer away, then look no further!

(Click for a full-size view, or view the original comic here.)

IT'S SO GOOD ARGH. Here, have a fashionable homage to Faye and Dora, so I can at least pretend that this post is something other than shameless fangirling...

I wish I owned more nerdy t-shirts. Sigh.

How Dangerous Are Your Cosmetics? Skin Deep Reviews.

Need a healthy dose of paranoia? Check out Skin Deep's Cosmetic Safety Reviews.

"In 2004 we launched Skin Deep, an online safety guide for cosmetics and personal care products. Our aim was to fill in where companies and the government leave off: companies are allowed to use almost any ingredient they wish, and our government doesn't require companies to test products for safety before they're sold. EWG's scientists built Skin Deep to be a one-of-a-kind resource, integrating our in-house collection of personal care product ingredient listings with more than 50 toxicity and regulatory databases.

Now in its fourth year and third major update, our Skin Deep database provides you with easy-to-navigate safety ratings for nearly a quarter of all products on the market — 41,953 products with 8,342 ingredients."

To be honest, I'd rather not know that my shampoo is going to give me cancer, thanks...

Whooga Ugg Boots $30 Promotional Code

I think I made my stance on Ugg boots pretty clear in my How To Look Good in Sweatpants post the other week. Nonetheless, I have a little something for any of you who are otherwise inclined!

Whooga Boots are offering a pretty sweet $30 gift card to all Vulgar Moon readers. Just enter the code 'VULGARMOON' into the cart when making a purchase, and the money will be deducted. And never fear, non-dollar shoppers, the discount is valid in any currency - so it's worth about €21 or £19.

Just be sure to follow this guide to wearing them if you do decide to snap up a pair! That blog may drive me a bit nuts at times, but there is some sound, sound advice contained within the link.

Personally, I find these woven thingies to be the most tolerable of all Ugg boots. They look less... caveperson-y, I guess. Or do you think they're just as bad as all the rest?

Daily Outfit: The Red Dress

An attempt at a mysterious pose...

Dress - Looking Glass
Tights - Topshop
Shoes - Red Tape (second hand)

The dress was a Christmas present - err, bought at my "suggestion" - but it's so much nicer in the summer, since I can wear it with my most favouritest tights in the world.

I got them in a sale bin in Topshop, and I wish I'd bought about six more pairs, because someday they're going to rip and I'm going to be incredibly depressed.

Went book shopping the other day, and am now fully loaded up for the next couple of weeks - Charles Bukowski's Ham on Rye, Brett Easton Ellis' American Psycho, John Updike's Rabbit, Run, and Jeffrey Eugenides' The Virgin Suicides (this had better live up to Middlesex!).

Anyone reading anything interesting at the moment? Post some summer recommendations in the comments!
